The designer recently decided to update the Aston Martin lineup with his concept called the Gauntlet. Only someone like Ugur Sahin can think of improving the beautiful cars of the Aston Martin lineup. Respecting the rich history of the car manufacturer, the designer comes with a perfect blend of his perspective and our favorite elements of an Aston Martin.

Ugur Sahin was able to come up with a brutal and magnetic concept design called the Gauntlet as inspired by the old Db35 with hints from the DB AR1 and the One-77. You can also see cues from the Maserati Gran Turismo and 8C Competizione to make the design even more terrific.

The concept is very clean as it never tries too hard to look too futuristic nor too retro. The Gauntlet Concept features the wide-mouth grille typical of an Aston Martin, high fenders for both front and rear, and the organic, sexy headlamps.

We fall in love with the side mirrors which emulates the sharp lines of the windows surround. The rear windshield also flows nicely following the lines of the roof. The creased lines on the sides are also a nice touch, giving the car a look of person wearing an opera mask.

The concept’s name Gauntlet represents the lines which emotionally complement each other to give that feeling of a solid, protective armor on the roll according to Ugur Sahin.

“With 470bhp from its 6 litre, V12 engine, the DB9 rewards drivers with stunning levels of performance,” says Nick Mennell, technical director, Caparo AP Braking. “However, some owners have told us that particularly spirited drivers, including those taking part in track days, would like additional braking power. With more than 80 years’ experience in developing high-performance automotive braking systems, our team of 18 braking engineers have developed an aftermarket upgrade kit that delivers what they need without adding extra weight or compromising performance while cold.”

The DB9’s original 330mm rear discs remain the same with the 355mm front disc replaced by 378mm discs, made from specially selected high-performance materials. Calipers are extremely rigid opposed piston four pots at the front and four pots at the rear, each machined from a single casting of aluminium to provide exceptional stability and performance.

Touchtronic 2 Gearbox into Aston Martin DBS

Aston Martin DBSThe DBS Touchtronic transmission features a final drive ratio shortened from 3.15:1 to 3.46:1, aiding quicker acceleration times and an improved performance feel. Additionally, changes to the gearbox calibration aid more aggressive gear shifts and greater usability, while retaining the performance potential of the manual gear box – matching the 0-60mph (0-100km/h) time of 4.3 seconds. System functionality is consistent with that on the DB9, with ‘Park’, ‘Reverse’, ‘Neutral’ and ‘Drive’ modes selected via facia mounted controls.

When in ‘Drive’ mode, pulling either of the leather-trimmed magnesium alloy paddles mounted on the steering column will activate Touchtronic mode, enabling the driver to control gear shifts via the paddles. Touchtronic mode is also accessible directly on engine start-up or directly from ‘Reverse’. Alternatively, the ‘Drive’ mode can be selected at any time by pressing the ‘D’ control on the centre console, engaging a fully automatic mode which will select the most appropriate gear for the speed and driving conditions automatically.

The system also includes a ‘Sport’ mode - activated by a button on the centre console – which engages a more aggressive gear shift strategy as gear changes feel sharper and more forceful, engine speed matching on downshifts is more aggressive and in full automatic mode, upshifts occur at higher speeds. The Sport setting also incorporates a more responsive throttle map to match the high-performance characteristics of the DBS.

Available immediately through the dealer network, customers will be able to upgrade their existing 4.3 liter V8 engine to an even more potent version of Aston Martin’s already impressive power unit. With the addition of the power upgrade, peak power is raised by 20bhp to 400bhp and torque is increased by 10Nm to 420Nm, increasing top speed to 177mph and delivering a slight improvement in the 0-60mph time.

Developed by the Aston Martin engineering team, the power upgrade is realized through a revised induction system using technology previously introduced on the DBS. The induction system has a pair of switching airbox-valves that open at 5,500rpm allowing additional air into the engine producing more power in a controlled manner. The engine’s control unit has also been re-programmed with new software to optimize ignition timing. In addition the new calibration allows the engine to recognize higher octane fuels, further maximizing performance.

The V8 Vantage is manufactured at Aston Martin’s Headquarters at Gaydon, Warwickshire, UK, a facility that combines Aston Martin's renowned hand-built bespoke attributes with the technology required to manufacture the bonded aluminum VH architecture. Exquisitely designed and detailed with class-leading agility and performance, Vantage is a practical two-seater with a large tailgate providing access to a 300 liter rear luggage compartment.
